Now, that is something that should not happen. It sounds like people wanting to be citizens are getting their indoctrination of the crappy legal system in this country, that allows despicable lawyers to prey on people that can afford their inflated fees the least.

There are some honest, and dependable, attorneys around, but there are far too many shysters that are nothing but leeches.

Time to get a green card varies, depending on a number of factors, which is why I stated 2-8 years to get a green card. BTW, as an aside, the cost to get a green card in terms of attorney fees etc is not trivial : a good ballpark would be US$10K.

Refugees apply for a green card after 12 months continued residency on a refugee visa. The cards are issued immediately upon application. The cost is free.
