Powell didn't support going to war, but he supported the president as many in government and outside of government did in the lead up to war. To do otherwise was to be called a traitor. It's just like the war on drugs, who in politics speaks in favor of decriminalization, nobody... it doesn't get votes, just like going against the president when he prepares for war, who needs or wants to deal with being called a traitor. Gosh, you guys on the right, that's your favorite call.
