In SD Senate Race, Thune Leads Daschle 50% to 46% Survey of 500 Likely Voters September 29, 2004 South Dakota Congress Thune (R) 50% Daschle (D) 46% RasmussenReports.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- October 3, 2004--In his bid for re-election, Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle remains slightly behind former Congressman John Thune. The latest Rasmussen Reports survey finds the Republican challenger earning 50% of the vote while Daschle attracts 46%. However, the four-point advantage for Thune is within the survey's 4.5 point margin of sampling error. A survey conducted three weeks earlier found Thune leading by a similar margin, 50% to 47%. In February, Daschle had a three-point lead. The survey also found President Bush leading Senator Kerry in the state by a solid 52% to 40% margin. This has no impact on our Electoral College projections since South Dakota is already in the GOP column. The President's Job Approval rating in the state is at 57%, a few points above his national average.
