The fact is, the debate shows there are a lot of moderates and undecideds, and further the swing after the debate shows that many of the undecideds did not follow the politics or prior performance of both candidates.

For those who did not listen closely to the wide range of positions Kerry espoused in the last 3 months, the debate alone will cause some to like the one who talked the better talk. If they understood what he said a week ago or 9 days or 15 days or 30 days ago, they would have a very confused view of what Kerry stood for. But in this debate, he was saying all the right things, about killing terrorists, about staying in Iraq --- that swayed the moderates.

It is important that this is not going to be painted as another vietnam, because it is far from that. In vietnam, the US really was fighting the soviets supplied noth vietnamese. In this case, the resources of the enemy is quite limited, though they are very widely dispersed.

But I have no doubt of all the diverse positions, the "Last man to die for the wrong war" idea is the real Kerry talking, and if he was president, the withdrawal is assured, honor or no honor. But this is not that easy to see.

This is the nature of politics.

However, instead of ignoring specific polls, it is better to average them all.
