Iraq and Vietnam are similar thanks to Bush. Why? Because the reasons for going in were inaccurate, the reasons for committing full-scale were not there, lies were told all along the way by the White House and Pentagon, and we never had any exit strategy, nor do we really know who we are fighting against. Do you realize that the Bushies still really have no clear idea who is fighting us? Maybe it's a combination, maybe it's mainly Iraqis fighting for their turf. In Vietnam, we thought we were against the communists but McNamara learned 20 yhears too late (see The Fog Of War) that in fact we were not against the red Chinese or Soviets, we were stepping into the middle of a civil war and the VC believed we were invading their country so they were willing to die for it. They didn't even care about communism. And the Iraqis may not care about Baathism or extremist Islamics. They may just be fighting us because we invaded.
