"This administration and the Republican Congress have presided over the biggest, most reckless deterioration of America's finances in history."

A quote from some liberal? Some Democrat? Nope, that is a quote from well known Republican stalwart Pete Peterson (Chairman of Blackstone Group and the Council of Foreign Relations) in the current issue of Business 2.0 October, 2004.

“Today,” Peterson writes, “so-called conservatives are out pandering LBJ. They must have it all: guns, butter and tax cuts.”

MY COMMENT: PIMCO's Bill Gross, Morgan Stanley's Stephen Roach, former FED chairman Paul Volcker, Pete Peterson and others ... the voices warning of fiscal problems caused by the Bush administration are getting louder and the speakers more prominent.

You write: "By every measure I see as relavant, the economy is doing very well."

You don't consider job creation relevant? You don't consider the budget deficit relevant? You don't consider the trade deficit relevant? You don't consider the decline in median family income over the last 4 years relevant?

This so-called recovery is built on a marshland of debt. Personally, I think this economy is very weak (due to the poor policies of Bush). I am joined by the likes of Paul Volcker, Pete Peterson, Bill Gross, and many others ... but what do they know<g>?

We can do much better on the economy. We can do much better in Iraq.

If this is you sense of a better economy, I ask better than what? Better than yesterday? Better than the economy of Zambia? better than what.

Where were you living during the Clinton years? Did you live in some third world country at that time?
