Suma, However, he is a decent man who got caught up in a blunder by CBS and others ineffectual colleagues.

He did stick his foot in his mouth when he initially called the bloggers "partisan political operatives" and the sources "unimpeachable." All the while he gave off an air of arrogance and elitism.

That can be interpreted as mere passion for his job or a severe character flaw, depending on whether you give him the benefit of the doubt. Either way, the damage is done and it will take time for Rather and CBS to restore the public's trust in the news it reports.

The political jihad against Rather has been grossly unfair imho. This guy was a stalwart of journalism reporting for a great part of my life and I have developed respect for him that supercedes one mistake, if it were in fact his fault.

Its been ridiculous....played to the hilt by the right. Apparently, the Bushes and Rather go back a long way and Rove is using their past disagreements for all its worth.

He is being persecuted unfairly. Soon there will be a book about Dan Rather as a group of Rather hating journalists.. probably jealous of him... will put out a Ratherwater...or Rathergate.

Just kidding. However, he is a decent man who got caught up in a blunder by CBS and others ineffectual colleagues.

Nonetheless, it was a major blunder and could have hurt Kerry seriously. And the worst part is that Bush's NG service record which I suspect is very close to that depicted in the memos got lost in all the brouhaha. Someone needs to go down at CBS for the mistake IMO. It was sloppy journalism.
