Listen, from your post you seemed confused. The war is a mistake. yes it is a mistake. he made a mistake in not having a plna to win the peace. Even Bush acknowledges that the war is a mistake when he talks about "catastrophic success." By using that term, he indicates that he had not planned to win and to win so quickly. Goes back to planning. he had not planned the war very well by his own admission with this use of that term. So that is a message from Bush to the enemy that he made a mistake.

Now in comes Kerry and uses that famous line of "How can you tell a man or a woman to be the last one to die for a mistake." You read it as an advocacy for withdrawl from Iraq. But many of us, who believe that we can do better and think differently to enable us to hold onto that belief, say that statement from Kerry implies that we need to correc that mistake and you cannot tell people to die to support that mistake.

Stage 3, how do you correc that mistake? And that is what Kerry spelled out in the debate. You have to give these countries the reason to win the peace. It is OK that Bush failed to persuade them to join him in the war, but he has also failed to persuade then to join him in winning peace. You know why? Simple. You can winn them over if you let them win and bid them on rebuilding contracts along with Halliburton. For if they win a contract, they realize that they have to send in their troops to protect their citizens who are on that project.
