Really, it was directed to root out the Uzbekistani double-double secret agents that are so prevalent among our intel staff. Certain top-echelon State Dept. officials could plant the rumour, whereby it would travel to Mossad, and certainly be picked up at the dropbox near the Big-Bowl-of-Falafel fast food franchise on 3rd Street in Tashkent, around 2pm every 3rd Wednesday of the month. The reply phrase is "Welcome frequent customer."

If one checked the job applications of the 1-HB janitorial crews, a surprising amount of "demolition experience" would probably be found among the skills & qualifications entries. Of course, the cleverness of the whole plan is that their employment paperwork went up in smoke with the buildings.

The planes weren't critical to the job, as the plans were already in place to hijack (via remote-control) the big Disney and Simpsons balloons during Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. Secretly filled with hydrogen, a few hundred of those would make the Hindenburg look like a weenie roast.

The only mystery that remains is how the White House expected to keep the intricacies of such a diabolical plan hidden from the erudite purveyors of this thread. The State dept. should have consulted here first, probably picking up some "real good tips" for the mission's success.

"how would you undertake explaining the rather confusing brinksmanship behind - as your theory
appears to have it - the government launching an attack against its own people while simultaneously seeding the various
intelligence-gathering services with information to that exact effect?"

If you were planning to murder your wife, what better way to eliminate yourself as a suspect than to spread rumors that someone else is out to get her? Especially if the person you plan to frame for the crime is also on your hit list? Blaming someone else for a crime is hardly a novel concept, and neither is the idea of setting them up for a fall ahead of the fact. The urgent reports received by the White House are certainly a lot easier to explain as being accepted as progress reports on planted evidence, than it is to explain why concerned leaders totally ignored warnings of impending doom for thousands of the citizens they are sworn to protect.

You really shouldn't drink the bong water. It appears to be affecting your reason. I'll be glad when the ignore feature is back up. Finding your sort of nonsense in my inbox is a horrible waste of time
