The relevant passage is "surging enthusiasm for Kerry among Democrats." The networks are all saying Kerry won the first debate when all he did actually was to avoid committing suicide.

Kerry is ahead in the race. The memo doesn't show for a few days after polls. Polls are always about 3 days old no matter how "news". Kerry has gained a lot of support in the last 3 days. Bush is also headed into a brick wall of bad news. All due to his mismanagement.
