what is the relationship between staying in the inactive reserves and a discharge other than honorable? Can you fill me in?

Kerry enlisted in the US Navy Reserves on 2/18/66 for a period of six years.

On 15 Dec 66 he was honorably discharged to accept a Navy Reserve Commission which he did the following day. At the very most he incurred a fresh 6 year reserve commitment. Or he may have just retained the original 6 year committment. I don't know Navy Regs on that. He should have been discharged 6 years from either the first or second date.

On 3 Jan 1970 he was transferred to the inactive reserves.
On 1 July 1972 he was transferred to the standby reserves.
Between these two dates, according to his own admission and reports, he negotiated unlawfully with the North Vietnamese in Paris...twice.

He should have been honorably discharged either on or about 2/18/72 or at latest on or about 15 Dec 1972.

He was discharged honorably after 6 more years on 16 Feb 1978.

There are no released records to show a 1972 discharge...nor a reenlistment...nor an enlistment extension.
For absolute certain, something is being hidden from public scrutiny.

The dates don't make sense.
The questions I have are:
Why did Kerry do another 6 years in the reserve? He obviously hated the military.
Did Kerry get a bad discharge in February 1972 and spend another 6 years in the reserve to straighten out his record? A record that he is now hiding.

I believe the answers are in the unreleased documents.

Let me also point out that Kerry served all of his time as a US Navy Reservist. Yet he has called National Guard members shirkers.
