Jim, I think they should get rid of the $500k cap gains tax and apply this money to school college grants and research.

If they grant $500k cap gains tax break to real estate, they need to do it for stock gains too.

It makes sense to either remove it, or have both, but not only do one type. Otherwise you'll see what the USA has today.

Probably lower it, as part of a program to bring the budget into balance. Bring tax brackets back to pre-Bush levels. Cut some military spending (despite howls from the neos). There are a number of things we can and need to do.
