The point stands -- the US made a series of tragic mistakes and the way in which looting and lawlessness bacame part of everyday life greatly facilitated the influx of foreign elements and the dominance of local anti-American groups. By not being able to establish order early on, we lost the possibility of being in control of the situation as time went on. Anybody who says we have established control of the security situation in Iraq is either a liar or a fool.

Interesting that Yahoo didn't get the WHOLE quote from Bremer:

Message 20601441

>>>>BREMER also said he believes winning the war in Iraq is an "integral part of fighting this war on terror." He added that he "strongly supports" President Bush's reelection. <<<<

And I didn't see this in the yahoo piece either>>>...

>>>>>>A senior defense official, speaking on the condition on anonymity, said yesterday that BREMER never asked for more troops when he was the administrator in Iraq -- except for two weeks before he left, when he requested forces to help secure Iraq's borders.<<<<<<<
