Iraq and WMD were low-hanging fruit.

The goal was not to get the easiest target, it was to respond to 9/11. And what WMD are you talking about?

What you suggest is a much longer term item, and it would not do anything to prevent terrorists that already hate us from using some WMD in the mean time.

Sure, but if you don't remove the source of the hatred (the Saudi promoted Islamic fundamentalist view of the world), eventually someone's going to get you. You have to remove the hate.

However, what are you suggesting we do to get these people to like us?

Removing the hate and getting them to like us are not the same. I don't like you, but I don't hate you. From your perspective, it really doesn't matter what I feel about you as long as its not hating you and wanting to kill you.

Many of them just hate our culture completely and want to go back to living in caves under a strict religious system. They hate us for exposing their people to our culture, but how are we to prevent that?

My point was that regime change and establishment of a representative democracy would have been a better response to 9/11 if it had been done in Saudi, rather than Iraq. If Iraq made sense based on 9/11, Saudi makes twice as much sense. It did then, and still does now, if 9/11 is the driving force behind Iraq.

I don't think you're going to be too successful with this track. I think it's more productive to take the weapons away.

Without the removal of the systemic things that produce the "Many of them hate our culture completely" idea, your option has no ending.

Brian, do you know any Muslims? Most don't want to live in caves. Most don't want to blow up people. The ones who do want to live in caves and blow up people are the same as those guys who blew up the Fed. bldg in OK City. You know the ones........the Christian fundamentalist righties, McVeigh and his good bud what's his name.
