Cheney's claim there is a link between Iraq and Al-Qaeda is due to his belief that Al-Zarqawi was in a terrorist camp in Afghanistan in the early 1990s. Whether it was true or if Cheney just made it up remains to be seen.

Apparently, there is no link between Al-Qaeda and Iraq: in the first tape that Osama issued after 9/11, Osama appeared rather disdainful of the "secular" (as opposed to religious) Baathist Saddam and his ruling elite. I am rather surprised why no one seem to have zero-ed on this fact.

Cheney seems to believe that the public would accept whatever he says by virtue of his long service and experience. His dismissive style of speaking would suggest that this is so. But I am glad Edwards reminded Cheney several times that his long resume does not guarantee his being right every time.
