This afternoon I started seeing a touch of gold but the only red was in a bush. Normally this is our peak color time.

Thinking about your Alaska trip. My mother's cousin, who only had one hand due to a farming accident, and his wife, drove to Alaska from here back around 1952. They converted a school bus and towed a Jeep that had a winch. They used the Jeep to winch the bus across the areas where water ran over the road. At that time the Alcan was gravel and they were the first civilians to drive the length.

Places to get gas were few and far between so they hauled an extra 200 gallons in cans. The road was so hard on tires that they carried 3 spares for every tire on the road and replaced all the tires before heading home.
