IMO, the piece is flawed on its basic premises. It assumes total destabilization of the entire country of Iraq was not an intended result, increased military spending was not an intended result, and that there was any motivation whatsoever related to security or well being of the US as a whole. None of those things are true. The illegal invasion of Iraq is, has been, and will continue to be, a screaming success for those who planned it. It's even doubtful the various "leaks" were a surprise.

Compare the treatment of Sibel Edmonds to that of Bob Graham. Those with information the White House wants to keep out of the public domain don't get approval for their new books, they get gag orders.

What you end up with is the lie the Bush Administration wants people to believe --- that war profiteering, doubled oil prices, and eliminating Iraq's support against Palestinian genocide were unintended consequences of the war. Those weren't off shoots of the invasion, those were the goal. Just because the author, like any right thinking person, does not believe those are desirable goals, those were the goals never the less
