Why didn't Reagan take care of this? I suspect that the nuclear situation in Russia has gotten worse not better as it descends back into autocracy. Putin crowed a year or so ago about NEW mobile nukes that had been successfully tested. That's probably to offset Bush's crowing over the R&D going into suitcase nukes: tactical nuclear weapons. Besides, other countries have been developing their own capabilities. No one seems to know for sure (I find that impossible to believe but who knows?) but the speculation is that North Korea has gone from 2 to 8 warheads just in the last year. That's under Bush's watch when he yammers about refusing to go into bilateral talks because China might depart. China depart? They've been yelling at us to GET MORE INVOLVED. The other rumor is that Iran is within years or maybe even months of developing the capability to enrich uranium and plutonium. That's a new one. It's also far more dangerous than just having the capacity to build a bomb. Is that correct or just an excuse for Israel to bomb Iranian cities. Who the heck knows? Hopefully the CIA does and hopefully it won't cooperate with the belligerent war-mongers in the admin. We're 5% of the world's population and it's total bs that we're the last remaining superpower. TOTAL BS. Iraq is showing the world how ridiculous that concept is. We cannot rule the world. We cannot live in a juvenile fantasyland as Wolfowitz does and dream of American Hegemony both on the planet's surface AND in space (!). They're nuts. That's why it's so important to have friends and (OMG) ALLIES.
