I think Edwards scored more direct hits on cheney over things like squandering our country's credibility, the administration's LONG record of failure, their unwillingness to admit reality, their lack of honesty to Americans.
His admission that he wasn't aware of a glaring AIDS problem in this country was a BIG minus for him...completely self-inflicted.

cheney tried to appear that he wasn't on the defensive but the impression he left was that of somebody with a bunker mentality.

I think Edwards came off better than Cheney, but it was close, which the Presidential was not. Cheney surprised me by not responding 2-3 times when he could have. Cheney seemed much less comfortable than Edwards, and sometimes seemed to be obviously visibly lying. Cheney sounds authoritative when lying through his teeth, and is very skilled at it. What a lifetime of "public service" gives you. I thought Edwards missed a few chances where he could have attacked, but might have not wanted to seem to be beating up on an old man.
