Malcolm,

I forgot the history on exchangeable shares. My bad.

Back to receipts and options. I haven't been able to buy either through Fidelity, Scottrade or Interactive Brokers so I called TD Waterhouse, Ameritrade and Harrisdirect.

I think some of the brokers like TD Waterhouse in the US let you open a Canadian account where the beneficial owner is a US resident and you can trade options, the problem was the fees. I couldn't find a US broker who could trade options.

I had the same difficulty with receipts-it must be a Canadian-not American account, and again the fees are higher there.

Thanks,

David

Malcolm,

As to Rights Offerings (RO), the trusts usually restrict them to Canadians only. However Enervest (EIT.UN/EVDVF) in their usual spring RO this year, granted them to US unitholders who could sell them but NOT exercise them. Most US brokerages did not know how to handle them.

Hi Malcolm,

I just found out OST.UN is not DTC eligible which makes it less attractive in an IRA due to the 15% withholding.
