But the fact of the matter is, the Raleigh News and Observer does not regularly refer to Edwards as "Senator Gone". Doesn't happen. Not true, Cheney lied. Has the N & O run articles about how often Edwards misses Senate votes, indeed it has. Most likely Rove scripting that Cheney just swallowed without thinking about it. I will say this, Cheney did not use some of Bush's boilerplate. I don't believe we heard "Iraq is hard work." "We're workin hard, its hard work." , from the V-P, to his credit.

As for the other misleading comment Cheney made to Edwards, from the debate transcript it was:

"Now, in my capacity as vice president, I am the president of Senate, the presiding officer. I'm up in the Senate most Tuesdays when they're in session.

The first time I ever met you was when you walked on the stage tonight."

Either Cheney was lying and deliberately trying to mislead the viewers, or he is suffering from severe memory problems.
