I think the gay/non-gay dichotomy is misleading. Imo it is more a sliding scale of sexuality.

On one end, guys who are gay and nothing but gay, on the other end guys who are straight and nothing but straight, with most people falling somewhere between the extremes.

For example, some men engage in homosexual relations in prison, but would not think of it outside of prison. They would fall in the middle.
