Kumar, That is real good science...Really Terrific! You should consider applying for a New Zealand grant to study which hole produces flatulence. I could suggest an SI member for initial studies. > Uncle, Being an international expert on hot gases I point out that Kumara is in error and the research showed not that ruminant animal methane emissions were a problem for the ozone layer, but for the greenhouse gas effect. Methane is a highly effective greenhouse gas, much more so that boring old CO2 and wussy H2O [not that I have anything against "old" gases which should be treated with respect]. Neither was it flatulence at issue, but belching. The microbes in the digestive tract produce heaps of methane, which is belched up. Of course the real problem was the idea that governments could do much useful, including solving the purported but missing greenhouse effect problem. It's as likely to be found as BigFoot WMDs in Iraq, which are now universally recognized as being a load of Bushite flatulation. If anything, the greenhouse gases are preventing a relapse into the next ice-age, which is due any time now. So, there you are. Problem solved, correct information given and no need for further research, or government funding, or even some military waco knee-jerk solution involving shooting a lot of people or sheep. Mqurice
