The information I have read supports Tejek's assertion that Iraq was not a country before Britain needed a larger political entity to rule.

The assertion that rape and kidnapping is not uncommon appears to also have some basis in fact.

You two can bicker over the weather.

It is a crying shame though. You may not know and appreciate the birthplace of civilized man. The land between the Tigress and the Euphrates is the place man may have first settled down. First place cultivated. First recorded writing.

Now if the posters on this thread could learn to be civilized.

There is no sense of an Iraqi nationalism.....instead they think in terms of Sunni, Shia and Kurd.

Prove it. How did you determine that Iraqis have no sense of nationalism?

The original boundaries of Iraq are not the current boundaries. Those were artificially created by the Brits. in 1920.

Or did you just assume three separate ethnic/religious groups cannot have a sense of nationalism?

There is clear evidence that the tie between the three is fragile at best. The Kurds would like nothing better than to form a separate country called Kurdistan. The Shia want to rule the Sunnis. And the Sunnis are loathe to be ruled by anyone.

in a country where summertime temps get up to well over a 100 F.

Dude! Try 120 F and you'll be closer to the truth! 100 degrees F in the summer is a nice day!

I said "well over 100º".

The rape and kidnapping of women has become commonplace

?? Where are you getting your info? Yuo're discussing Iraq, not South Africa.

And I am referring to the women of Iraq. From varied first hand sources.
