The robber was stealing while holding people at gunpoint. That is armed robbery.
The robber had the man at gunpoint. That is assault with a firearm.
The robber ordered the man into a back room. That is kidnapping at gunpoint.

Everybody in there was in life danger. The manager more so as he had been singled out for special treatment likely including his own death. The manager's actions were appropriate and warranted. If the manager shot both robbers dead on the spot he would have been within his rights.

If I worked at a restaurant or convenience store, and they robbers told me to go in the back when they were done, I'd fight like hell. There have been too many incidents where workers were taken out back and shot. NFW would I cooperate.
