Poll: Florida Presidential Race Too Close To Call

Two new polls indicate the race between President George W. Bush and Democratic challenger John Kerry in the battleground state of Florida is still too close to call after their first debate.

Bush was the choice of 48 percent of respondents in one poll, which also pegged Kerry's support at 44 percent and 5 percent undecided. But the survey released Wednesday for The Miami Herald and other media outlets has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points, meaning the race is a toss-up.

A second poll shows Kerry leading Bush 47 to 45 percent in Florida, with 6 percent undecided. But the American Research Group poll's margin of sampling error is the same as the other survey, still indicating a tight contest.

However, the surveys were conducted less than a week after the fourth hurricane of the season. Polling is complex at a time large areas of the state are recovering from the hurricanes, which affected virtually every part of the state.

The polls' results are virtually unchanged from previous surveys.
