at night ge would bring out a small truck with a huge magnet and collect up all the nails off the main street along the entrance..tv stations would be set up to show the friction at the gates, cops mostly did nothing as the guys in the pickett line were also on their buddy, neighbor, GE also had crews ,with tires etc all set up each day to change tires every day. strikes are very bad news , no one wins .. and causes long term relationships to fall apart. we had one where i worked first one in the history of the company,, woman crossing line , union president said to them we cannot guarentee your safety.. these woman who knew this man very well for over twenty years never had anything more to do with him after that.. I relocated several years later and they still wouldn't talk to him.
