I would say that people who post on SI are almost all investors, who deal with financial markets regularly. Some are professional investors. Others manage their own funds. Some manage millions.

Many - like me - are business owners.

Professors read books. They have theories. What is it about being a professor that makes them more aware of economic reality than those who actually manage the country's financial institutions, on a day to day basis?

Your post suggests that you are quite young, if you think being a college professor means you know much about the real world. Yesterday I sat on a plane next to an economics professor preparing for the next class in international finance. He was wearing a t-shirt with a dragon on it, just as my son does. He told me that he was a regular Dungeons and Dragons player, just as my son is.

My own son is considering a career in economics. He's never had a real job in his life. But one day he may well be a professor of economics. If so, I will take his opinions about politics with a large grain of salt. BTW, he's very conservative, and will vote for Bush.
