<"close enough to the fastest">

If you see a trend, and you decide to buy 1000 shares, and your quotes are a minute to several minutes behind, such that your market order is filled 1/4 point higher (and this is generous), you have just spent the cost of a real time system - on a generous scenario, and on just a single trade.

Or if your quote system goes down for 2 or 20 minutes or your data is incorrect, if only occasionally each month, how can this NOT be more costly than a good, reliable, "real" time system?

So I guess I don't get the "close enough" idea. If several minutes doesn't make a difference, why not just use Internet Trader 15 minute delayed for free? It's like horseshoes - it's either accurate real time or it's not.

Does anyone know where to find access to historical intraday data on indices or stocks? Fee based service is fine unless of course you know of a free one. End of day services are everywhere, but after hours of searching I've come up blank for historical intraday providers.
