It wasn't a matter of needing perfect knowledge -- there was plenty of accurate intelligence, but it was held in private; it's only the public dissemination of "re-interpretations" which makes it appear they were wrong. Their willful distortion was simply to create moral justification and to employ fear as a way to build support. Many of are still numbly placated. Keep repeating their matra of "You're safer now" and avoid unpatriotic thoughts regarding the price we could pay in enabling the fulfillment of their dream of The New New American Century and the climax of the Rapture Index.
