Mark my words, the recent "beautifying" of the US action in Central America (US support of guerrilla warfare), will be in the news in the months to come. Cheney raised this spectre in his debate with Edwards. They'll attempt to use this tactic in Iraq, and no doubt we'll see attempts to use this tactic in other countries (Iran, Syria? Cheaper than US troops, more deniable (hey, those aren't our soldiers committing human rights abuses) and country portable too. How long before another jungle war in North Korea is on top?) More 'catastrophic success' in the future?
