i honestly think that saddam was a non-issue. a bad guy, sure, but there plenty of better reasons for invading iraq than the supposed "imminent threat" of WMD. the public would not have understood or accepted the underlying rationales, however.

we should have gone full tilt into afganistan and done it right (although casualties would have been high).

at this point, it is moot. we've stepped in sh*t and now we have to deal with it. any half assed attempt to start a democracy in iraq is doomed, imho. it will be very hard to prevent the region from fracturing (which might not be the worst result).

i think we need more money, more troops, and more allies, and i'm not opposed to paying more taxes to make it a world-class effort.
