should normally print a hard copy by doing as you're saying

It copies to memory a picture of the screen. You can then print that out from Word(or other programs) if you like once it is pasted in. So the "hard copy" can only be printed AFTER it is pasted.

Condor, in WinXP I just hit PrtScrn and then paste into Wordpad [which is found under Start>All Programs>Accessories] and the clipboard contents are there.
