My post was dead serious but I can see how my intent can be misread. Let me clarify:

A puppet regime will have to be instilled, the US can not stay in control forever. Until there is a real government and self-policing, the people of Iraq will believe and feel that the US remains in control.

The regime will have to be more brutal than we would be - nature of the area unfortunately - arms length deniability is the only way that will work. The problem is sometimes these regimes take on a life of their own.

The goal is not to leave a repressive regime, I don't accuse the admin of desiring that. I am sure their goals are nobler, just unachievable.

"Sitting back and collecting the rewards" - what I was thinking is that the planners of this debacle thought they had an easier job ahead "welcomed as liberators" and that the region would be on the mend ever after -- which is clearly in the best interest of the US and the world, a good reward.

Just unattainable this way.
