What makes you think that the elections to be held will not elect a pro US regime?

You do not spend 120 billion, growing to a likely 500 billion over this decade, on invading a country unless you get something for it.

Sure its noble to "free" a people but there is business to take care of too. Like it or not, believe it or not, business is a driving factor in this world of ours. There was a big price to pay in dollars, lives, and political capital to go into Iraq.

The business risk of letting Iraq fall into uncontrollable hands is simply to great. No completely independent government will see power in this election.

Why do you think the domestic (Iraqi) resistance is there? If it was a simple matter of raising profile and getting votes, they would be doing that already. Admittedly fighting the "US" is part of that.

Bush did not go into Iraq to free the people nor to just depose Saddam. Once you accept that, once you accept that he and his inner circle had/have a far more wide reaching and ambitious goal, then it becomes very easy to understand why retaining control over Iraq is *the* goal.

The goal which, in their eyes, must be achieved at all costs.

If you believe that the US can force the entire middle east into accepting our brand of democracy then you should vote for Bush. Twice if you can.

If you buy the simplistic arguments (saddam bad, saddam has weapons, saddam going to attack us across the ocean) then vote for Bush.

But, if you think the entire thing is a mistake -- yes, a collosal mistake, driven by a warped ideology -- then someone else needs to be given the opportunity to start cleaning things up and trying a different approach.

And the VERY best thing that could possibly happen is that the people get very involved. They need to demand more than angry looking campaign spin meisters force feeding them snipets of factoids construed to sound correct.

In short, the people need to demand the truth.
