Any CEO who would consider an offer to buy MRK at this point should be immediately removed from his position IMHO. Talk about buying trouble. Look at the companies who have made acquisitions only to find out years later that they bought asbestos or hazardous waste cleanup liabilities. Then take MRK, where an acquirer would go into the deal with eyes wide open to the legal mess they were buying, but with no idea how much the total downside would be. Theoretically anything is possible, but it seems to me a buyout of MRK anytime soon is about as close to impossible as something can get.
