But that's not it. It wasn't 911, it was the US's reaction to 911. Disasters, attacks, tragic and horrible events happen. We cannot prevent all of them, not with 6.5 billion individuals on this planet. I AM MUCH more concerned about our government than any terrorist group. Government wield much more power to screw up your life than any terrorist group. The entire point of terrorism is not to have a big actual effect but to have a huge after effect. Yes, the death of 3000 people is horrendous but governments in one way or another took the lives of 20 million during the last world war. Government killed 300,000 people by nuclear bombs over the course of a year (from injury and radiation). The terrorists more than achieved their ends: they messed up the United States which in turn toppled a secular strongman in the Middle East AND removed troops from Saudi Arabia AND created more terrorists and enemies AND got the US to declare a holy war (at least Bush did) in perpetuity. THAT is what the terrorists wanted and Bush gave it to them on a silver platter. That only encourages more terrorism. I believe that terrorists should be portrayed as criminals and lunatics not as holy warriors. They should be pursued by the police and the military as thugs and murderers not as leaders that are the equals of the President of the USA. Bush may have taken out 75% of what he thinks is AQ's leadership but they've quickly filled those positions and morphed into independent units in 60 countries. Besides, there are other groups we almost never hear of in places like North Africa. I used to think that the USA wasn't Germany in the 30s and 40s but the Goebbel's style propaganda employed by Rove isn't much different. People are people and the unthinkable is here again if we don't stop it. THAT's what I'm afraid of.
