The ICRC is not the UN. Surely the French could do better than 200 troops, couldn't they?

That's right the ICRC is not the UN. The ICRC is distributing 5.9% of the aid in the region while UN Agencies are distributing 59.5% of the aid in the region. Where does the ICRC get its funds from? They are consolidated from various Red Cross contributions. There is a contribution from the Canadian Red Cross, the German Red Cross and, yes, the French Red Cross [among others].

France makes the list of the individual top ten donors [#6 for Chad and #10 overall]. The #2 donor is the EC/ECHO, i.e., the European Union. By definition there is French money in contributions from the EU. That's above what is listed as the direct contribution from France.

It would be fun to convert contributions by country to a %/GDP [the UN doesn't do that.] I wouldn't ask you to do that, your plate is already full looking up who has been the "obstructionist" in the UN.

I'm absolutely amazed that you wouldn't check around to see what the French were doing in the region before posting...Surely the French could do better than 200 troops, couldn't they? You are so pre-occupied with bashing the UN and the French that you won't even spend a few minutes looking up what the UN [or French] are doing. It's astounding to me that you would expose yourself that much.
