Elroy,

you bring a very good point. However, I wouldn't mind Karzai brought to power though. He represents the majority Pashtans and if he wins the election, he would represent a large perentage of Afghans and hopefully be accepted as legitimate leader.

Allawi, on the other hand is not very popular in Iraq and is viewed as our puppet. If he were to win the election, he would not be considered legitimate by most of the iraqis. A fair election in Iraq would very likely get Sistani and/or Sadr in power.
However, as in our earlier exchange, I do not believe we are in Iraq mainly for a noble goal of liberating the iraqis and spreading democracy. Our primary interest is to get a pro-US govt in Iraq (which can then help us economically through oil), even if it doesn't represent a iraqi majority.
