Darley has coined the apt phrase "the walking worried" for people who think about the implications of these things.

but i guess you could limit your focus to specific timelines. e.g.,

over the next 10 yrs: volatile energy prices, combined with localized "flareups" / large-scale skirmishes / small-scale wars

over the next 20-30 yrs: increasingly hot tensions between major powers, esp. US and China

over the next 30-50 years: overtly hot world wars between major powers

over the next 50-100 years: end of "civilization" as we know it. effective end of large-scale nation-states, which are increasingly usurped by warlords. a "Road Warrior" type scenario.

hopefully these scenarios are totally off-base and the world lives happily ever after.
