I agree, and I definitely don't recommend trading the pinksheets.

But I hope I'm being clear regarding ameritrade: the executions ARE on the Canadian exchanges NOT the pinksheets. They have always used the pinksheet symbols internally to refer to Canadian stocks. For example, if I call them and tell them to buy ANO.u on the Toronto (Anatolia) - I can watch the execution (on stockwatch) occur in Toronto through Canacord. They will be quote me bid and ask sizes that are the same as Toronto. However it appears in my account as ALIAF. I suppose they want to avoid confusion with the US symbol ANO (anoraq). Similarly, if I place an order on the website to sell ALIAF it gets routed to Toronto and sold as ANO.u. The direct routing of pinksheet symbols to canada is a recent change and I find I get decent executions. When buying stocks in the couple dollar range I find I have to add ~0.7% to the canadian price when converting to US dollars. I assume this is a fee associated with the currency conversion and seems reasonable together with a $11 commission.
