car bombs and suicide attacks

Freidman is wringing his hands. The car bombs are the Sunni thugs. The suicides are al Qaeda types. I think we will collapse things quickly when we go into Falluja. The question is, can the Iraqi's hold the city? TWT.

If Friedman is right and the car bombs and suicide attacks are by Sunnis then the actions of Sadr, a Shi'a cleric, are irrelevant to the calculus of whether car bombs and suicide attacks continue.

Zeyad of Healing Iraq blog notes that everytime Sadr acted up, the car bombs died down. He concludes that the Sunni thugs are not in concert with Sadr and want to see the Americans pound him. The Sunni thugs want to reestablish Sunni domination over Iraq, they're scared of potent Shia leaders.
