Well maybe there is something about your account I don't understand. But I have or manage 5 IRA accounts for my family with ameritrade (traditional, roth and rollover). And I routinely trade Canadian stocks in all of them.

I suggest you try the following: call ameritrade and immediately press zero, then select option #1 to "trade with a broker". They will then list 5 options - #5 is "Canadian and other foreign securities".

I don't have an Ameritrade account....but I am positive that you can buy Canadian issues with a regular Ameritrade account.

I see posts on other sites everyday where they are purchasing Royalty trusts on the Canadian exchange via Ameritrade.
