L.L., it seems that what you are trying to say here is that out 'wise, paternalistic national leaders' know better then our young people themselves what is best for young people.

Well... we'll just have to agree to disagree.

While I'll freely admit that no person or age cohort has "all" the truth, especially the young... (even though, as an individual, in my own experience I'm better informed now then I was when young), I still won't drink the koolaid and say that 'old people should be able to tell young people what to do with their lives', particularly as it applies to a national draft.

I still believe that most people act in their own perceived best interests... and that --- in the larger sense --- it's good for our country that they do, and to recognize this fact.
