And I think a lot of that is wasted money on the buddy-buddy military network they have. Better use of some of that money would be towards the real killers (medical illnesses), as well as real preventive solutions such as scanner technology to help patrol our borders to borrow a bit from Karen's post here

Here's a thought: the CIA had already identified the bulk of the individuals that were terrorists before Sept 11. This tells me they have a good ability to identify the problems. The follow through simply needs to be fixed. I don't think starting a $300B war was the way to fix it - in fact, I think it creates more terrorists. If I were in charge of this country, I would have gotten to the bottom of why the follow through didn't happen, and I would have increased the FBI's field budgets so they can be better prepared.

Right. we could cut 30 billion a year just on completley unnecessary weapons systems like SDI. SDI might be worth it but the damn thing doesn't work, has never worked and it nowhere close to working.
