Kerry was more prepared for the second debate format, having held town hall meetings throughout the primaries where the audience and the questions were anything but scripted. In contrast, the president has opted mainly for a campaign-by-infomercial in his "Ask President Bush" sessions where only screened supporters are allowed to attend and the questions are largely solicitous.
