The point is well taken. As a Doctor I agree that you have to cut the abscess in order to heal the body. Often it is late by the time an abscess has formed. The infection should be rooted out before it turns into an abscess.

A better word than abscess would be a cancer.

I do not know where the phrase "thousand other cuts across the body" comes from.
