The only thing in it that scares me is the part about universal coverage from the govt for catastrophies. The absolutely last thing I would want to be, is dependent upon a govt health care system. Imagine having to wait in line 6 months to get an EKG. Scary!!! This is how things are in other well-to-do countries that have universal government care. No thanks! I'd rather see the govt give money to people who don't have insurance so they are able to buy their insurance with this money from the capital market (rather than be forced onto a universal plan with poor care through the govt.) Here's one thing Kerry needs to address: make it illegal for insurance companies to decline people. Check this story out here:dfw.com "Employees also learned that they would not have any paid health insurance benefits beyond Friday. But because the (company) no longer exists as an employer, COBRA is not an option for employees, Doheny said. COBRA is a federal provision that gives certain former employees, retirees, spouses and dependent children the right to continue health coverage temporarily at group rates" (but only if the company still exists.) Now, that's absolutely foolish of the govt not to change the laws to make it illegal to decline people. They need to legislate for health care to be portable to wherever you go. It should be made illegal if insurance companies decline people - especially people that have paid into the system for decades. Right now, the only people that can get insurance are those whom are healthy to work and whose jobs provide benefits. That's ridiculous. Kerry needs to address this issue. He should also make it illegal for insurance companies to give better coverage to larger companies than smaller ones. Also, individuals should be able to buy equally as good plans as what companies can buy. It should be considered discrimiation to sell different insurance coverages to different people according to their class in life. People should be treated equally and be given the right to buy the same good coverage. This is the issue. Too many people that have been declined insurance, are forced to be dependent on the government, which isn't fair to them. They have the right to be part of this society and should not be pushed onto dependency on the govt just because Bush hasn't made it illegal for insurance companies to reject them. They should have an equal right to insurance too. It should be illegal to decline people. Regards, Amy J
