It certainly didn't hurt to use conventional forces and equipment in Afghanistan.

They routed out the Taliban which led to successful elections in that country for the first time ever. They allowed our military to take Baghdad in three weeks and help stem chaos in Iraq. There will be free elections in that country in Jan 05' thanks to those conventional forces.

The left talks out of both sides of the mouth when it comes to troop/military strength. Too much, not enough.

Which is it?

Our problem is with our insistence on treating an unconventional war in conventional terms, and trying to fight it with an inappropriate strategy.

The war in Iraq was most certainly as conventional as they come. Tanks vs tanks, artillery vs artillery, massed troop formations vs massed troop formations is pretty durn conventional.

And you are wrong if you think Clinton chopped our conventional forces in favor of Special Forces.
He eliminated two active duty Special Forces groups for a 29% chop. He also eliminated both Reserve Special Forces Groups for a 100% cut.

Clinton did more damage to the US Military than WW1, WW2, Korea and Vietnam combined. About the only things that have been resurrected from the Clinton slash and burn tactics are morale and motivation. And Clinton's proposed replacement, John Kerry, has been doing his level best to destroy both of them before he takes office.
