Exactly, in fact I'd bet that many purchasing managers have allowed older inventories (FIFO) to run down in the hope that prices might provide later relief. That gambit didn't work, and that's set up the conditions for a buyers panic in the face of depleted above ground stocks. That seems to be starting to unfold. When the discussion turns to private "hordes" it important to realize that mostly refers to material that is consumed daily. The synthetic economics mentality that Dave Alaron (?) and many others suffer from, is a throwback to the post-Communist era dehoarding days when massive amounts of strategic commodities were dumped in the market. Those days are long gone.
